Nantou Ancient City Museum

making historical relics shine

The Nanshan Dongjin Site Museum in Shenzhen is located next to Shennan Avenue, relying on the historical and cultural resources of Nantou Ancient City to protect and develop Shenzhen’s historical and cultural heritage. With the lighting design concept of “urban replication”, it enhances the historical value of Nantou Ancient City on the Nanyue Ancient Post Road. As a cultural landmark that connects history and modernity, the Ming and Qing city wall ruins, urban arteries, and citizen parks are surrounded by a halo, making the site not only a space for citizens to stroll at night, but also an academic research and public education function. Using a gradient warm light from 3000K (historical area) to 4000K (modern area), construct a narrative of light and shadow that blends ancient and modern elements. Respect the cultural layers of different eras and create a dialogue of light and shadow through a three-axis lighting system – the Eastern Jin ruins, Ming and Qing city walls, and Shennan Avenue. The “crack light” accurately illuminates the texture of cultural relics, combined with borderless spatial transition design, making historical relics shine with eternal light at night, linking urban memory and the future.
