Famous engineering equipment manufacturing enterprise Sany Group invites SOM to build a new headquarters building for it. The twin towers are connected by a unique exposed structural design: every five stories, steel reinforced concrete columns form a module, forming a cross grid structure. The structural design is both aesthetically pleasing and efficient. In each five story module, the lower four floors are suspended on the node level structure, eliminating the need for bulky internal columns and maximizing indoor viewing views. The Twin Towers are located in the center of the Pazhou commercial district in Guangzhou. They do not use traditional podium design techniques, but instead connect the two towers through a raised column free podium, creating a pleasant public square and garden green space on the ground.
