The Chongsi Building of Xuhui Middle School is one of the components of Xujiahui Yuan, and is an excellent protected building in Shanghai and a cultural relic protection unit in Xuhui District. Presenting an architectural style that combines French classical architecture with classical Greek art. The exterior is made of brick and stone structure, while the interior is mainly made of wood structure. As the first school for the spread of Western learning to the East, Xuhui Public School, founded in 1850, is one of the earliest modern high schools in mainland China. The Chongsi Building is a school building completed in 1918, designed by Belgian priest and architect De Sney. After a hundred years of wind and rain, and several repairs, this century old building still retains its charm.
